2 Tim 2:4.”No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs.”
One of the great truths in Scripture is the fact that we are engaged in a spiritual warfare. The Bible says, “though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does”. 2 Cor 10:3. This Scripture has a military connotation, thus intimating that we should have a military mindset towards life.
Today, I hope to share with you some military principles that have a great bearing on our Christian life.
1. Obedience to commands.
Fundamental to our Christian faith is the need for every child of God to obey God’s commands. In Christ’s Great Commission, to His disciples, He charged them to teach His followers to obey everything He had commanded them. (Matt 28 :20).
2. Order and Discipline.
Discipline is as important in our Christian walk as it is in the military. In fact the word disciple itself comes from the root word discipline; and every child of God must develop this virtue in prayer, Bible study and character.
3. Ranking and respect.
In the military, ranking and respect is of premium importance. For example, yesterday, I observed a military officer salute every single car in a military convoy, simply because his superiors were in that convoy. Similarly in God’s army, “.. everyone is expected to march in formation and not break ranks.” Joel 2:7. Honour, holds great promise in the Bible.(Eph 6:2.)
Dear friend, I pray you become a good soldier of Christ. Our key scripture today says, “No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer” (2Tim 2:4.)
I see you winning the war of life, by the grace of God, as you develop these timeless principles.
